“When I was helping my husband for 12 years through cancer while raising our three children, I was surprised at the lack of support and resources speaking directly to the well parent.”

Parenting is hard and often thankless. Throw in a cancer diagnosis for your spouse or partner, and parenting takes on a whole new dimension. What once felt like life’s big deals – getting your slow, picky child to eat or keeping the house tidy and the family social calendar up to date – now take a backseat to cancer’s chaos.

While your spouse or partner is focused on their healing, you are charged with making sure just about everything else for the family moves forward. Add to your plate keeping track of medications and appointments, researching treatment options, or making difficult decisions about your spouse’s care. Your new normal may be “barely surviving.” Maybe you’ve been at this awhile and self-doubt makes you question your once confident decision-making. Or, maybe you’re worried whether or not you’re being a good enough parent with your ever-shrinking bandwidth. Then there is the isolation.

We have conversations about - and answers to - some of the unique challenges faced by the supporting parent through their spouse’s cancer.
